As the dark days of winter lengthen, I realise that my brain is getting ever more emaciated by lack of stimulation and purpose, and the inability to concentrate on anything for more than five minutes. I blame no one but myself for this shocking state of affairs. I can’t really even blame the cold, dull days of winter, as much as I’d like to. It’s a creeping phenomenon, and if I’m honest, has been happening to me for years. The lure of the internet, social networks, the demands and challenges of parenthood, family life and work have taken their toll, along with a persistent laziness and a ridiculous belief that because I’m now in my, ahem, very late forties I don’t need to bother to learn anything new or expand my mind. Learning, after all, is too tough for words.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
This is an Un-New-Year’s-Resolution. To DO more, to FEEL more, to THINK more, to LEARN more.
This Blog is the start.
I hope you will join me on my journey as I tackle my lethargy head-on.
And to kick things off. I’m going to attempt to read the Top 10 Books Ever Written (according to The Greatest Books.org website). Number One on the list is DON QUIXOTE by Miguel de Cervantes. Even more challenging would be to read it in its original language, Spanish, in which, of course, I’m a dab hand (not).
So I’ll settle for the English version. And hope I get to the end . . .
